विश्व साइकल यात्री फूर्तेम्बा
घुडाँको खत देखाउदै अफगानिस्तानको कोसेली देखाए उनले, फोल्डरका फोटोहरु
देखाउदै उनको चोरि भएका २ वटा साइकलको सम्झना गरे । मान्छे जति भद्र
देखिन्छ त्यतिनै उनको मन सोझो छ, इमान्दार छ । त्यो भन्दा बढि पत्याउनै
नसकिने, सुन्ने बुझने सबैलाई प्रेरणा हुने उनको जीवन कथा छ । तर उनी भर्खरै
२९ वर्षमात्र टेक्दैछन् ।
संखुवासभा, माम्लिङ्ग ६ मा बुबा गेन्जु शेर्पा र आमा मिङमा शेर्पाको कोखमा
जन्मिएका फूर्तेम्बा शेर्पा अहिले विश्व साइकल यात्रामा छन् । उनको यहा
सम्मको जीवन यात्राको कथा यसरी शुरु हुन्छ । उनका २ दिदीहरु छन् । तिहारको
बेला दिदी माइतीघर आएको थियो । आमाले अर्हाए अनुसार भाईटिकामा ठूली
दिदिलाई १० रुपैया र कान्छी दिदीलाई ५ रुपैया दियो उनले । त्यसको भोलिपल्ट
घुम्न जान्छु भनि ठूली दिदीलाई पैसा माग्यो । फूर्तेम्बालाई छरछिमेकीले
सोझो शिधा छ भन्थे र कता नै पो जाला भनेर दिदीले १२ रुपैया दियो । फूतेम्बा
सुटुक्क घरबाट बाटो लागेर चित्रे भन्ने ठाँउमा पुग्यो र त्यहाबाट वस चढेर
धनकुटा तर्फलाग्यो । त्यस बेला उ ९ वर्षो थियो र कक्षा ३ मा पढ्दै थियो ।
फूर्तेम्बा धनकुटाको फलाटे फेदिमा कुलो खन्न पुग्यो । त्यस ठाँउमा कुलैकुलो
धेरै भएकोले अहिले पनि खुलेखानी भनेर सम्झन्छन् उनी । झण्डै ९ महिना कुलो
खने पछि बाटो खर्च पुग्ने पैसा जम्मा भयो र काठमाण्डो हानिए । काठमाण्डोमा
गलैचा उद्योगमा झण्डै १ वर्षकाम गरे त्यसपछि काठमाडौं सामाखुसिमा झण्डै २
बर्षभारी बोक्ने काम गर्यो । अहिले पनि त्यहाँ धेरैले शेर्पा भाई भनेर
मलाई चिन्दछ भनी स्वयं दावी गर्छन् । भारी बोक्दा संगैका साथीहरु शुरुमै
कति दिने भनेर मोलतोल गर्थे तर उनी भने काम गर्थे र तपाईको जोर् इच्छा
भन्थे । त्यसबेला मालिकहरुलाई लाज लागेर पाच दश रुपैया उनलाई बढि नै दिन्थे
। भारी बोक्दाबोक्दै ढुङ्गामाटो बोक्ने कुल्लिहरुको संगतमा पुगे उनी र ३
वर्षसम्म ढुङ्गा बोके त्यसबेलाको सम्झना गदै खुशिको खबर पनि सुनाए उनले ।
कुल्लि काम गरेर १४ हजार रुपैया कमायो । त्यसपछि बृद्धा हुनुभएका बुवाआमा
भेट्न घर पुग्यो ।
बुबाआमालाई भेटेर काठमाण्डौ फर्किए पछि न्यूरोडको पाँचपाण्डन गेष्ट हाउसमा
किचेन असिण्टेन्ट काम गर्न थाल्यो र अलि पछि देखि फिल्म निर्देशक बिजु
रंजितको घरमा फुलबारी हेरचार गर्ने मालिको काम पायो । मालि नामको जाँगीर
भएपनि काम चाहि घर सरसफाइ गर्ने र गाडी धुने हुन्थ्यो । उनले दुवै ठाँउबाट
१६ सय रुपैया महिनामा कमाउथे । गर्नेलाई जहीतही नगर्नेलाई कहीनकही भने झै
उनले इन्टरनेशनल विजनेस सेण्टरमा पियनको जाँगिर पायो । त्यस बेला उनको
कार्यलयले खिम्ति जलविधुतको सरसामनहरु पठाउथे । त्यसै सिलसिलामा उनी खिम्ती
पुग्यो र त्यहा राम्रो संग र्साईकल चलाउने अवसर पायो । उनको कम्पनीले
पस्मिना विक्रि वितरण गर्ने काम पनि शुरु गर्यो । त्यसै सेरोफेरोमा
फूर्तेम्बाले रुम्जाटारकी विन्दु गुरुङलाई जीवनसंगिनी बनाएर भित्र्यायो ।
हाल उनको दुइ छोरी स्कुल जान थालेका छन् ।
कम्पनीले शुरु गरेको पस्मिना बिक्रिवितरण संगै उनले पनि निजी तवरले ब्यापार
गर्न थाल्यो र त्यसपछि बिट्रीस सेनामा भर्ना हुनको निमित्त प्राइभेट
अध्यायन पनि गर्यो । छ महिना भन्दा बढि समय शारिरीक कसरत गर्यो । अन्तत
कसरत गर्न जानेक्रममा एकदिन विहानै भर्याङबाट लडेर हात भाँचियो र त्यस पछि
उनको रहर सधैको लागी अधुरै रर्यो । उनले पस्मिना बिक्रीलाई निरन्तरता दिदै
रेष्टुरेण्ट पनि संचालन गर्यो । हाल पनि उनका परिवार ठमेलमा सानो दोकान
गर्दै आएका छन् । तर उनी भने विगत ५ वर्षदेखि दिनरात र्साईकल यात्रा गर्दै
विदेशमै छन् ।
काठमाण्डौमा ब्यापार गर्दागर्दै एकपटक अधिराज्यब्यापी र्साईकल र्यालीमा
सहभागि हुने अवसर पायो र त्यसैबेला उनलाई विश्व साइकल यात्रा गर्ने सोच आयो
। त्यहि सोचले आज उनी ३५ औ देशमा यात्रारत छन् । सन् २००३ को जनवरीमा
विश्वका विभिन्न ८५ वटा राष्ट्र यात्राको लक्ष्य राखि विश्व साइकल यात्रामा
निस्किएका फूर्तेम्बाको लक्ष्य पनि बढेको छ । अब उनले १५० वटा देश घुम्नेछ
र यात्रा सन् २०२० मा पूरा हुनेछ । अझ धेरैदेश घुम्ने लक्ष्य बन्नुको कारण
विदेशमा प्रवासी नेपालीहरुले गरेको माया र विदेशीहरुले गरेको सद्भाव र
सहयोग भएको बताउछन् । विश्व साइकल यात्राको क्रममा सबै भन्दा दुःख र सबै
भन्दा सुख कुन देशमा भयो भनी सोध्दा न्यूजिल्याण्डको शुरुमै नाम लिन्छन् ।
अफगानिस्तान यात्राको क्रममा अफगान प्रहरीले हातखुटा बाँधेर उनलाई ८ घण्टा
सम्म थुनेको थियो र त्यसैबेला प्रहरीले धकेलेर लडाउदा उनको घुडाँमा खत
बसेको छ । साइकल यात्राको क्रममा उनले सधै गाँसबाँस त कहाँ हो कहाँ उसको
साथमा भएको साइकल पनि कम्वोडियाको जंगलको बीचबाटोमा लुटियो र दोस्रो पटक
फिलिपिन्समा चोरी भयो त्यसबेला फूर्तेम्बालाई ठूलो आपत पर्यो । अहिले उनी
न्यूजिल्याण्डका चक्र बहादुर थापाले किनी दिएको साइकलमा वेलायत आई पुगेका
छन् । उनले नेपाल, भारत, भूटान, बङ्गलादेश, बर्मा, थाइल्याण्ड, कम्बोडिया,
भियतनाम, लावस, मलेसिया, सिंगापुर, ब्रुनाई, फिलीपिन्स, इन्डोनेसिया,
न्यूजिल्याण्ड, अष्टेलिया, फिजी, टोङ्गा, साम्मो, पापान्यूगिनी, दक्षिण
कोरिया, जापान, हङकङ, मकाउ, चीन, मंगोलिया, श्रीलंका, अफगानिस्तान,
ताजिकिस्तान, उज्वेकिस्तान, जर्मन, हल्याण्ड, बेल्जियम, फान्स यात्रा गरि
सकेका छन् ।
विश्व शान्ति, वातावरण बचाऔ र नेपाल यात्रा गरौ भन्ने शंन्देश बोकेर वेलायत
यात्रा गरिरहेका फूर्तेम्बाले आफ्नो साइकलमा भ्रमण गरि सकेका ३५ वटै देशका
झण्डा राखेका छन् र थप शान्तिको प्रतिक बुद्धको झण्डा पनि र्फहराएका छन् ।
देशविदेशका उच्च तहका ब्यक्तिहरु संग पनि उनी नजिक छन । अष्ट्रेलियाको
प्रधान मन्त्रि क्याविङ रड तत्कालका प्रतिपक्षी नेताले आफ्नै घरमा लगेर
स्वागत गरे उनलाई र विश्व साइकल यात्राको क्रममा कुनै समस्या आएमा जुनसुकै
बेला सहयोग गर्न तयार रहेको कुरा बताएको छ । त्यस्तै गरि न्यूजिल्याण्डमा
सर एडमण्ड हिलारी संगको भेट पनि ज्यादै सुखद रहेको बताउछन् । केही समय अघि
वेलायतमा सम्पन्न गोर्खा कप फूटबल प्रतियोगितामा हजारौ नेपालीहरुलाई भेट्दा
दोस्रो नेपाल देखे उनले । वेलायतमा धेरै नेपालीहरुलाई भेटे पछि उनको आग्रह
छ वेलायतमा बसेपनि नेपाललाई नबिर्षुहोला । विशेषतः राजधानी बाहिर हामीले
धेरै गर्नुछ । स्वयं फूर्तेम्बाले पनि भविश्यमा समाजसेवामै क्रियाशिल रहने
प्रतिबद्धता ब्यक्त गरे ।
हामी नेपालीहरुको गौरव फूर्तेम्बा अंग्रेजी राम्रो संग बोल्न सक्दैन्न
यद्यपी उनलाई कुनै समस्या छैन । भ्रमण गरेका प्रत्यक देशका भाषा उनलाई काम
चलाउ राम्ररी आउछ । उनको मुख्य विशेषता भनेको प्रत्यक देश घुमेको बेला
भेटेका ब्यक्तिहरु बर्षौ पछि भेटेपनि चिन्दछ र भेट भएको मिति, गते, बार सबै
बताउन सक्छन् । कुनै पनि नयाँ कुरा चाडै सिक्न सक्छन् । उनले नेपाली बोल्दा
पनि शेर्पा भाषाको प्रभाव राम्रो संग सुनिन्छ, त्यसमा आफ्नै सौर्न्दर्यता छ
। उनी संग एउटा सहास छ । त्यो सहासलाई उनको इमान्दारिता र सोझोपनले साथ
दिएको छ । राम्रो काम र राम्रो मान्छेलाई सबैको साथ हुन्छ भन्ने उखान
चरितार्थ भएको छ । औपचारिक रुपमा कक्षा ३ सम्म पढेका फूर्तेम्बाको महान
विचार र कर्मले लेखपढको ढ्वाङ्ग फूक्ने तर देश र समाजलाई केही दिन
नसक्नेहरुलाई साह्रै गिज्याएको छ ।
विश्वका धेरै साइकल यात्रीहरु यात्राकै क्रममादुर्घटनामा पर्छन । आक्रमणमा
पर्छन । भोमभोकै मूर्छा पर्छन । रोगब्याधाको सिकार हुन्छन् । दुःखः विरामको
बेला कोहि हुदैनन् उनीहरुको । यी सबै कुराहरुको बाबजुद पनि फूर्तेम्बा संग
हिम्मत छ, जोस छ, जाँगर छ त्यो भन्दा बढि देशको प्रतिष्ठाको लागि बोध छ ।
आफूले भेटेर नेपालको बारे जानकारी दिएर नेपाल घुम्न जाने विदेशीहरु दर्जनौ
पुगेको उनको हिसाब छ । नेपालमा पर्यटन भित्राउने काममा समेत आफूले
महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेलेको तर सरकार पक्षले गतिलो कागजपत्र दिन सम्म
कन्जुसियाई गरेकोमा उनको ठूलो गुनासो छ । यूरोपको यात्रा सिध्याएर आउदो
बर्षनेपाल जाने र विभिन्न कार्यक्रम गर्ने उनको योजना छ । वेलायतको यात्रा
पछि नेदरल्याण्ड जाने तर्खरमा रहेका फूर्तेम्बाको फान्समा भब्य कार्यक्रम
रहेको छ । नेपालीहरुको सयौ संघसंस्था रहेको वेलायतमा उनलाई भ्याइनभ्याइ छ ।
चिनेका छरछिमेका साथिभाइहरु वेलायतमा भेट्दा उनी दङ्ग छन् ।
आफ्नो देश र विश्वको लागि पवित्र र महान विचार लिएर विश्व साइकल यात्रामा
निस्किएका फूर्तेम्बालाई आआफ्नो ठाँउबाट सहयोग गर्दै जाँउ । साहसिक
फूर्तेम्बाले निरन्तर आफ्नो यात्रा बर्ढाई रहून् । भगवानले साथ देउन्,
विश्व साइकल यात्रीलाई सफलताको शुभकामना ।

ORLD TOUR CYCLIST FOR PEACE AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
My name is Furtemba Sherpa. I come from Sankuasabha , Nepal and at the
age of 26, I started cycle world tour with the aim of global peace and
environmental protection. Since 2003 I had been to 35 countries and my
destination will be until 2020 and my plans are to visit 150 countries.
I am presenting little information about the place where I was born and
my motto of world tour cycling.
Sherpas are the indigenous mountain tribe of Nepal found not only in the
northern part of Nepal, but also eastern hilly districts. The term
Sherpa consists of two words Sher, which means east and pa, the people.
Therefore the term Sherpa means the people of east. Sherpa village is
the gateway to mount Everest (8848 meters) the highest peak of the
world.
They follow their own religion (Buddhism), custom and tradition in their
day today life activities. In the beginning the main source of Sherpa
livelihood was agriculture, herding and Trans- Himalayan trade. With the
inroad of mountain tourism, the Sherpa have successfully become mountain
and trekking guides and lodge owners catering to thousands visitors to
this land, where the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest is
located.
Today as world is full of violence in which peace is being defeated. The
peace is the urgent need of the hour. Being born in a place where Buddha
was born, I would like to spread the message of peace and compassion by
cycling throughout the world.
At the same time preservation of environment is crucial because the
world is facing worst environmental degradation due to global warming.
Global warming is continuous increase in earth’s temperature induced by
human activities. This has caused sea level to rise, extreme weather
condition, and change in the rainfall pattern, agricultural production,
glacier retreats, species extinction and increases in vector disease.
Having seen and experienced such problems, I decided to tour the world
in my push bike and spread message of peace, compassion and
environmental protection.
Some of the counties I have visited are: Nepal, India, Bhutan,
Bangladesh, Burma, Thailand, Combodia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia,
Singapore, Brunei, Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga,
Samoa, Papua New Guine, Australia, South Korea, Japan , Hongkong, Macau
, China , Mongolia, SriLanka, Afganistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan,
Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, United Kingdom and willing to visit
whole Europe.
Until Germany I had visited all the countries’ only with cycle but from
Germany the new thing is I started cycle with trolley which will carry
flags of different countries that I had visited.
I started my German tour from Frankfurt Main on 28th February 2008. That
night I stayed in Hanau where I was allowed to stay free of charge as
the Manager was so impressed with what I was doing. Thereafter I cycled
Erfort city and visited some nepali brothers who wholeheartedly
supported me. I also met mayer of Erfort and even the local library,
which is always closed on Mondays, opened its doors to me as the
Director of the library was so surprised to be able to welcome a visitor
all the way from Nepal on bicycle. I was lucky enough to have met amny
journalists in Erfurt who raised my profile in Germany. On 6th March
2008 I arrived in Berlin, thereafter I went to Hamburg, Bremen and In
Munster. I then went over the border to the Neatherlands through Gronau
and Enschede on 26th March. From there I went on to Deventer, Harderwijk
and to capital Amsterdam. Carring on to Den Haag, Roterdam, Brader,
Trunhout, Markplas, Archot, Leuven & the capital of Belgium, Brussles.
After finishing my tour to Belgium I headed towards my new destination
to United Kingdom. I went to Calais in France where I was asked by Mr
Mohan B. Singh to spend some time with Nepalese friends first. I stayed
with them overnight and the next day, 8th May 2008, was given a free
ferry tide to Dover. Once there I was hosted for few nights by Capt.
Yubraj Tamang who is in the Gurkha Army and a resident of Folkstone
On 10 May 2008 I was invited for a programme called Indreni radio by Mr
Khem Gurung, which was in my honour and was invited me on the Sherpa
Monastery organised by local Sherpa’s the same evening. The day after I
met British Gurkha Major Shiva Limbu and gave an Interview with Mr Binod
Khadka in Nepali formed Radio Station called BFBS as well as meeting
with other reporters to give some further interviews.
And on my way cycling through the United Kingdom I visited the
Ambassador of the Nepalese Embassy on 15 May 2008, and was fortunate
enough to have spent an hour talking with him. He was also kind enough
to put me in touch with Major Dumber Ghale, the President of NRN. Major
Ghale invited me on 17 May at his home to have a small gathering. He
also organised a meeting the day after at a Nepalese Restaurant named
Everest tandoori where I was very please to attend that meeting because
I found lots of Nepalese who were desperate to talk to me about my
mission were all in peace and friendly manner.
I was invited in an event organised on behalf of Buddha Jayanti, the day
when Lord Buddha was born and was honoured with an Appreciation
Certificate by Chairman of The Buddhist Community Centre UK, Chairman
Kaji Sherpa.
As days pass by, I was invited in a 40 countries cultural show on 24th
May 2008 by SGCAK Community held at Kent and I was welcomed by a
appreciation certificate, there was hundreds of people attending that
show and I felt honour to get invited on such a large gathering. I also
met MP Damian Green and Pastoral David Lamb on the same event.
On 25th May 2008 I headed towards Aldershot, Hampshire early in the
morning from Kent, where I was invited by Tamu Dhee UK and NRN community
on a Nepalese Gurkha Cup football Event. I found that Gurkha Cup the
largest Nepalese football even that will be held regularly every year in
UK, I was so surprised and glad to see such a massive amount to people
attending that event, there were nearly about 6000 Nepalese on same
event and same place, which make me feel like I was in Nepal, also I get
to meet lots of new Nepalese friends out there who was so desperate to
talk to me. I was welcomed there by Maj. L.B. Gurung, President, Capt.
Indra Gurung, Sport Secretary and Chief Guest Benny Nielsen on the very
day. I left great Britain on 12th June i arrived at Calais port( France)
where ours friends Mohan bahadur Singh and jean marc delespaul picked me
up . i stayed one night with them and on 13th June i left Calais to go
to another town Lille where i met Francis ( a long time traveller of
Nepal ) . On 14th June i was welcomed by African community in Evreux a
town near by Paris. Where i had interact with Bena’s ambassador, mayor
of that town and the local people who were curious to know about about
Nepal. On 17th June i arrived at Paris to nepali embassy .I’m going to
attend nepali festival at Paris which is going to held on 21st and 22nd
June. And on 26 June I’m leaving for Switzerland.
